While you're away

Once you've arrived

• Switch your phone on.
• It'll automatically find one of our partner networks.
• When it does, the network name will appear on your phone's screen. This may take a couple of minutes.
• In some countries, you'll be able to use your phone on more than one network. Your phone will automatically pick the network with the best signal, but you will be able to manually swap over to a different one if you want to. See your phone's manual for details
• We'll send you a text with all the details of the call charges for using your phone abroad

Make some calls

• To make a call, just knock off the first 0 of the telephone number, then add the prefix of the country you're calling eg: +44 for the UK.
• Check coverage and costs for using your phone abroad.
• Making a local call? You'll need to include the international prefix here too. Check out our list of country codes

Send some text messages

Type your text message as normal. Then, enter the phone number as an international number - just like you would for voice calls.

Send picture messages while you're away

If the country you're visiting supports picture messaging, you'll be able to send snaps to:

• Other picture messaging phones
• Standard phones – your mates can pick them up online
• Email addresses – all around the world

Pay As You Go? You can send picture messages from over 40 countries. Pay Monthly or pay by Direct Debit? You can send them from over 70 countries.

Get picture messages while you're away

If you're in a country that supports Picture Messaging, you'll be able to receive picture messages, too. You can see which countries support picture messaging here.

If the country you're visiting doesn't support it, we'll keep your message for 3 days.

Mobile Web at your fingertips

While you’re abroad, you can check the internet on your phone too. Twitter from the beach, email by the pool, or check the Spanish for something on the go. Everything is set up and ready to go. Outside the UK, the price you pay to check the web is different. It costs £5 per megabyte, which is the equivalent of sending around 200 mails or viewing 10 web pages*. Lost or stolen phones

• We can put a bar on your phone to stop it from being used
• Got insurance? Ask us for a claim form, too.
• Report the theft to the local police if you want to make a claim.
