Save names to my group

Step 1

Start a new text message with the word save or shortcut sv, followed by a space.

Step 2

Enter the name of the person you want to include in your group followed by a space. Then enter their mobile number. The name you enter can be up to 9 characters long without spaces

Step 3

You can add up to 50 people to your group. Just repeat step 2 until you're finished and remember to leave a space between each name and number.

Step 4

All done? Insert the symbol * followed by the group name and send the text message to 5478. Inserting the symbol * is as easy as inserting a full stop. Check your phone manual if you haven't done it before.

You can add more people to the same group anytime you like, just by repeating these simple steps.

Send a group text

Step 1

Start a new text message with the word send or shortcut sd, followed by a space.

Step 2

Type the name of the group you want to send the message to followed by *

Step 3

Finally, type your text message and send it to 5478.

That's it! It'll be delivered to each person in your group - all at the same time!

Remove a group or person

You can remove one person from the group - or even the whole group - whenever you like. Here's how:

Send a text message to 5478 with the word delete or shortcut dl, followed by a space and the group or person's name. For example: delete emma or delete footy

To remove more than one person, just repeat the steps above. You can remove one person or group at a time.

Edit a number

Text 5478 with the word edit or ed, followed by the person's name and their new mobile number. For example: edit steve 07941404040

See which groups you've set up

Text 5478 with the word listgroups or lg.

We'll text you back with your list of groups.

See the names in each group

Text 5478 with the word list or ls, followed by a space and the name of the group you'd like to see listed.

We'll text you back with a list of names saved in that group.

Find a name

Text 5478 with the word find or fd, followed by a space and the first letter of the name you're looking for. For example find c

We'll text you back with all the names in your directory beginning with that letter.

Share a group

You can share a group with people that are saved in any of your groups. To be able to use your group, they'll need to have a Virgin Mobile phone.

To share a group:

Step 1

Start a new text message with share or sh followed by a space.

Step 2

Type the name of the person you want to share the group with.

Step 3

Then type * followed by the name of group you'd like to share. For example: share sam*pub.

Send a message to a group that has been shared with you

Step 1

Start a new message with sharesend or ss, followed by a space.

Step 2

Type the name of the shared group, then *.

Step 3

Simply type your message.

Your message may look like this: sharesend golf*round of golf this afternoon?

Protect your group

You can stop someone using your group at any time.

Step 1

Just send restrict or rs (and a space) followed by the name of the person you want to restrict.

Step 2

Next type * and the name of the group you want to protect.

For example: restrict paul*netball. We'll text the restricted person telling them that they can no longer text the group.

How much it costs

You'll pay for each message sent to an individual person in the group. So, 1 group text sent to 5 people will be charged as 5 text messages.

• It costs just 3p to text any other Virgin Mobile customer within the UK.
• It costs just 10p to any other network in the UK.

If you're sending text messages while abroad, it'll cost the standard rate for the region you are in.
