SE W800i

The internet in your pocket

Fancy checking Facebook while you’re on the move? Or putting a last minute bid on eBay when you’re miles from your PC? Now you can, with the internet on your Virgin Mobile phone.

It’s easy to do. Just head to the Bites site and use our mobile internet search. To get to Bites you just need to select the internet from your phone’s menu.

Having problems? You may need to set your phone up. Depending on the phone you have it may need the WAP, GPRS or 3G settings.

Never miss an email

With our mobile email service, you can check your email and reply on the go, whether you’re on the bus, snuggled up on your sofa or waiting for a mate.

Most email accounts work with our service. But there’s always a few that don’t. You’ll need to have an account with a provider that lets you pick up your email remotely by using technology called POP3 or IMAP. Unfortunately, if you have a Hotmail address, you won’t be able to use our service.

In some cases, you may need to enable email forwarding. You can do this by going to the website of your email provider, logging in as normal, and choosing the option in the settings or options menu. Some providers may also give you the option to enable forwarding only for mail that arrives from now on. It’s a good idea to do this, otherwise your phone may try to download all the emails in your Inbox.

Finally, you can choose whether you want to download the entire email each time you check your inbox on your phone, or just download the header. By downloading the header, you can see what the email is about and decide whether you want to pay more to see the full message. If you’d like to set up this option just go to the Advanced Settings or Configuration Options on your phone.

How much does it cost?

Viewing Bites is free if you Pay Monthly. If you Pay As You Go, it’s free for 30 days. After that, it's a flat rate of 30p per day. Accessing other sites costs 0.5p per kb downloaded.

To check, receive and send email also costs the standard cost of 0.5p per kb.

The amount you pay depends on how big the message is. Checking your email typically uses 12kb of data and will cost 6p, whether you have new mail or not.

Downloading an email which is around 150 words long would use 12kb and will cost approximately 6p. Sending an email of around 150 words uses approximately 12kb and will cost approximately 6p.

Downloading or sending any attachments will significantly increase the amount of data used. For every kb, it’ll cost 0.5p.

GOT QUESTIONS? FIND THE ANSWERS

What is WAP?

WAP lets you browse specially written internet pages on your phone. Unlike GPRS and 3G, it doesn't allow you to view images or see pages in colour. But you can read the text and see the pages in black and white.

What is GPRS?

GPRS is a richer version of WAP. You can see text, images in colour. Plus, the service is a little speedier too.

What is 3G?

3G is just a fancy name for a technology that lets you browse specially written internet pages on your phone fast. It also lets you download music tracks and videos to your phone. Plus, if you've got a mate who owns a 3G phone, you can make and take video calls too.

I don't have a Picture Messaging phone, can I still get picture messages?

Yes you can, but you'll need to get them online. Instead of a picture message you'll receive a normal text telling you how to get the picture.
